Dr. Axel Kirsch has been active in research and clinical practice in oral implantology and peri-implant prosthodontics for more than 35 years. The IMZ implant system was in part based on his contributions. Since 1995 Kirsch and his team have developed, tested, and established the CAMLOG® implant system. His current clinical activities focus on hard- and soft-tissue management and safe implant/prosthodontic treatment concepts, while his scientific attention is directed to basic research in oral implantology. Ever since he began practicing in his own office in 1974, Kirsch has held presentations, taught practical courses, and published numerous clinical and scientific articles. Kirsch visited numerous universities as a guest professor.

Dr. Bart Silverman’s dental journey began after he graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1982 Summa Cum Laude. He then went on to receive his doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1986 from Fairleigh Dickinson Jr. School of Dentistry, where he was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. Dr. Silverman completed his Oral and Maxillofacial residency at Westchester County Medical Center in 1989 and was chief resident in his final year. Today, Dr. Silverman is in private practice limited to oral and maxillofacial surgery in New York City, NY, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. He has given lectures in the field of implant dentistry for over 25 years and is passionate about continuing education. Dr. Silverman is an attending Physician at Westchester County Medical Center, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Clinical Associate Professor at New York Medical College, Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery New York University School of Dentistry, and faculty at NYU Post Grad Continuing Education Dental Implant Program.

Dr Beatriz R. Vilaboa received her degree in medicine and surgery with honours from the Complutense University of Madrid from which she also attained her specialty in stomatology. She joined Clinica Vilaboa in Madrid soon after her sister Dr Debora R. Vilboa founded it in 1987. She enjoys her private practice at the Vilaboa Clinic, dedicated to esthetic and restorative dentistry.Her devotion to treating patients using the most conservative approach possible motivated her to embrace the adhesive-additive concept to provide solutions to the tooth wear patient. Her interest in tooth wear culminated with a PhD from San Pablo CEU University Faculty of Medicine in Madrid, where she is now Co-Director of the undergraduate Esthetic Dentistry department. Dr Beatriz Vilboa’s passion for teaching is also evident in the many courses that she and her sister have given over the last 30 years. Dr. Beatriz Vilaboa has the honour of being an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED) and the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (IAED). She is also founding member of the International Academy of Adhesion (IAA). Her desire to better help patients suffering from cancer and other major medical conditions pushed her to become a member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM). She is also a member of the Spanish Society of Stomatological Prosthetics (SEPES) and Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA), as well as a fellow member of the International College of Dentists (ICD) and an academic from the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She lectures worldwide on esthetic and restorative dentistry and especially on tooth wear. Dr Beatriz Vilaboa treasures friendship with colleagues worldwide and believes that the common passion for dentistry goes beyond borders.

Dr. Behnam Shakibaie is a pioneer in Implant Microsurgery. He is a multi-specialist in Oral Surgery, Implantology, Periodontology and Microscopic Dentistry.
He has been developing and publishing new microsurgical techniques and instruments for oral implantology and jaw bone reconstructions.
Dr. Shakibaie is scientific instructor of Zeiss Dental Academy and research partner of University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan.
He graduated from Berlin University and specialized in Oral Surgery at Berlin and Bonn University. Dr. Shakibaie earned his Mastership in Implantology at DGI in Germany, Mastership in Periodontology at DGP in Germany and Specialization in Oral Microsurgery and Microscopic Dentistry at Zeiss Dental Academy in Switzerland.
He is an international speaker and winner of numerous scientific awards.

Professor of Endodontics-Clinician Educator, Director of the Postdoctoral Endodontics Program and Chair of Department of Endodontics. After earning his dental degree from Istanbul University School of Dental Medicine in 1993, he completed his endodontic postgraduate training at the Department of Endodontics at UPenn, where he also received his Master in Oral Biology in 1998. He later earned his DMD degree from Penn Dental Medicine in 2002. Dr. Karabucak lectures at national and international conferences, has published in peer-reviewed journals. Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, he has been the attending endodontist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Bertrand Khayat received his DDS degree at the University of Paris. He obtained his Certificate in Endodontics and his Masters of Science at the University of Washington in 1988. Burton Langer, DMD, MScD, was one of the first periodontists trained in osseointegration by Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark. He has lectured extensively throughout the world and has written over 50 articles and chapters for ten textbooks. He is the recipient of the 1992 Isador Hirschfeld Award for Clinical Excellence, the 1997 American Academy of Periodontology Master Clinician Award, and the 2015 Robert Eskow New York University College of Dentistry/Implant Dentistry Award. Dr Langer was named an honorary member of the American College of Prosthodontists in 2016.

Carlo Tinti, MD, DDS, is a contract professor at the University of Turin and an assistant professor for the odontology and dental prosthesis degree course at the University of Florence, where he teaches “Surgical Techniques in Implantology.” His works have been published in national and international journals. He holds refresher courses and conferences in Italy and abroad about the most modern techniques regarding guided tissue regeneration in periodontology and implantology. Dr Carlos Aparicio received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of Navarra in 1978, completed his postgraduate studies in dentistry at the Univeristy of Barcelona, and became a dental laboratory technician in 1983 at the Ramon y Cajal School in Barcelona. He received his Diploma in Implant Dentistry in 1984 from the University of Gothenburg (with Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark as tutor) and was awarded a Master of Materials Science from the University of Barcelona in 1990 before receiving his Diploma in Periodontics from the University of Gothenburg in 1995. He was awarded a master’s in biomedical research from the University of Barcelona in 2010, and became a Ph.D. in medicine (summa cum laude with international mention) in 2013. Dr Aparicio has written numerous articles for international journals. In 2012, he edited the book Zygomatic Implants: The Anatomy–Guided Approach (ZAGA). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in England and became an Academic at The Royal European Academy of Doctors in 2016. He is former president of the Osseointegration Foundation of the American Academy of Osseontigration. Chad Gwaltney, Ph.D. is President and Principal Consultant at Gwaltney Consulting. Dr. Gwaltney develops innovative methods to measure patient-centered outcomes in clinical trials. His academic and industry research includes the design of electronic platforms for the collection of information in real-time in the patient’s natural environment. He has published numerous articles and book chapters addressing how the patient’s perspective can be examined to better understand medical product efficacy and safety. He has served on US National Institutes of Health review committees and has co-authored ISPOR best practice guidelines on the development and use of patient-reported outcomes. Prior to founding Gwaltney Consulting, Dr. Gwaltney was Chief Scientist and Regulatory Advisor, Endpoints, at ERT. Dr. Gwaltney has also served as Head, Patient Experience, Hematology/Oncology, at Celgene and as a research faculty member in the Brown University School of Public Health.

Dr. DeWood brings more than 35 years of dental wisdom to Spear and the Facially Generated Treatment Planning workshop through her unique experience as both a general practitioner and practicing orthodontist.

In addition to her teaching duties at Spear, Dr. DeWood practices orthodontics in Glendale, Arizona, and Bellevue, Washington. After 22 years as a general practitioner in private practice, she chose to pursue an education and career in orthodontics. She has been a practicing orthodontist since 2005 and served as the acting clinic director in the graduate orthodontic program at the University of Tennessee until 2009.

Dr. DeWood graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1980 and received her General Practice Residency certificate in 1981. She earned her master’s in 2002 and a certificate in orthodontics in 2005 from the University of Tennessee and has been board-certified since 2006. She earned her Ph.D. in health policy from the University of Tennessee in 2011.

Christian Coachman, DDS, CDT, attended the ceramic specialization program at the Ceramoart Training Center, where he also became an instructor. In 2004, he was invited by Drs Goldstein, Garber, and Salama of Team Atlanta to become head ceramist of their laboratory, a position he held for 5 years. He is a consultant for dental offices and companies, developing products and implementing concepts. He is the developer of well-known techniques such as the Pink Hybrid Implant Restoration and the Digital Smile Design Concept. Dr Coachman has lectured and published internationally and maintains a family-run private practice in São Paulo, Brazil.

Chris R. Richardson, DMD, MS, is an adjunct clinical professor in the Graduate Periodontics Clinic at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and president-elect of the American Academy of Periodontology. He serves on the editorial board for The International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry, is a fellow of the Virginia Dental Association and the International College of Dentists, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2018 AAP Educator Award at VCU. Craig M. Misch, DDS, MDS, is a clinical associate professor at the University of Florida, the University of Alabama, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Michigan in the departments of periodontics and prosthodontics. He serves as editor-in-chief of The International Journal of Oral Implantology and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Oral Implantology and the International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry. Dr Misch has been a featured speaker for numerous organizations and published more than 50 articles and 20 textbook chapters. Dr. Daniel Černý received his dental degree from the Charles University’s Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, in 1998. Between 1998 and 2007, he worked as an assistant professor at the same faculty. He is currently completing his doctoral degree with a focus on adhesive post-endodontic treatment at Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech Republic. Since 2001, he has maintained a private practice limited to adhesive dentistry and endodontics in Hradec Králové.

Černý has been the President of the Czech Endodontic Society since 2015. He was the co-founder and first President of the Česká akademie dentální estetiky [Czech academy of dental esthetics] from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013, he served on the editorial board of LKS—Časopis České stomatologické komory [journal of the Czech Dental Chamber]. He is also the co-founder of the Dental Summit congress in Prague, Czech Republic. He has been the co-owner and director of the HDVI continuing education institute since 2010. Černý has contributed four chapters to dental books and lectures both nationally and internationally.

Daniel M. Laskin (September 3, 1924 – December 8, 2021) was an American oral and maxillofacial surgeon and educator who contributed to his field for over fifty years. He excelled as an educator, a researcher and a clinician. He served as AAOMS president, as well as the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and served as the editor of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery till his death. He was a major contributor to the dental literature with over 900 contributions to the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He co-authored 16 textbooks and monographs.

Originally from California, Dr. Ninan completed a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and also a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, both from California State University, San Bernardino, California. He was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009 from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.

Dr. Ninan began practicing dentistry by providing mobile dental services to long-term care facilities and hospitals in Southern California. He then practiced general dentistry at SAC Health System in San Bernardino, California where he received SAC Health System’s Provider of the Quarter Award. During this time, after much research, he wrote a book titled, “Dentistry and the pregnant patient” for fellow colleagues.

Daniele Cardaropoli, DDS, is adjunct professor in periodontology at the University of Catania, scientific director of ProEd Institute for Professional Education in Dentistry in Torino, Italy, and president of the Giuseppe Cardaropoli Foundation for Research and Care in Periodontology. He is an active member of several organizations and recipient of several awards, including the Henry M. Goldman Award for the Clinical Research. Dr Cardaropoli is the author of more than 30 articles published in peer-reviewed international journals and coeditor of the textbook Soft Tissues and Pink Esthetics in Implant Therapy (Quintessence, 2019). He maintains a private practice in Torino, Italy.

Dr. Dichter brings nearly 20 years of clinical, research and teaching experience — as a general practitioner and prosthodontist — to his position with Spear. He serves as an instructor in the Treating the Terminal Dentition and Fully Edentulous Patient seminar, in addition to multiple Spear Workshops.

Dr. Dichter has served as a guest lecturer and clinical instructor at Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry, teaching occlusion and esthetics. He has been a Spear faculty member since the company’s inception, as well as a contributing author for Spear Digest. He is passionate about education and is involved with multiple study groups in the U.S. and Canada.

After earning his D.M.D. from OHSU in 1995, Dr. Dichter practiced general dentistry and eventually joined a startup practice in his hometown in coastal Oregon before moving to a practice in Portland. He brought 16 years of restorative dental experience into UCLA’s world-renowned, full-time advanced prosthodontics residency, which he completed in 2014.

David A. Garber, DMD, is a past president of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED) and has served on the boards of the AAED and the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. He is dual trained clinician and professor in the Department of Periodontics as well as in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Georgia. He is a clinical professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University and in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Texas in San Antonio.

David M. Kim, DDS, DMSc, is an associate professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he also serves as division head of periodontology and director of the postgraduate program in periodontology and continuing education. Dr Kim is a past recipient of both Distinguished Junior and Senior Faculty awards from Harvard as well as the Balint Orban Research Award, the Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics, and a Teaching Fellowship from the American Academy of Periodontology. He has published 120 articles and 25 book chapters. Dr Kim is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and maintains a clinical practice in Boston, Massachusetts.

David M. Sarver, DMD, MS, is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and a fellow in the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He is author of Dentofacial Esthetics: From Macro to Micro with Quintessence (2020) and coauthor (with Drs Proffit and White) of the surgical text Contemporary Treatment of Dentofacial Deformity (Elsevier Science, 2002) as well as the 4th, 5th, and 6th editions of Proffit’s classic textbook Contemporary Orthodontics (Mosby, 2018). David Nisand, DDS, Specialist in Periodontics He graduated in dentistry at the University of Paris 5, France. He was awarded a 3 years residency in the department of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Paris 7 along with a 3 year post graduate program in Periodontology and oral Implantology at the University of Paris 7. He currently is lecturer for the Certificate in Periodontology at the University of Paris 7. From 2005 to 2007 he has been instructor at the Department of Periodontology, University of Paris 7, France. Currently President of the SFPIO (French Society of Periodontology and Oral Implantology) and member of the EAO communication committee. Member of the EAO Junior Committee from 2007 to 2011. He is co-editor of the European Academy for Osseointegration journal, Inspyred, and reviewer for the main scientific journals. Dr Romeo graduated with honors from the University of Milan in 2005, specializing in dentistry and dental prosthetics and with a thesis on the clinical efficacy of the All-on-4 protocol. He later obtained a doctorate from research in innovative techniques in oral implantology and implant-prosthetic rehabilitation, attending the dental clinic of the Galeazzi Institute of Milan before completing a year of study in periodontology at the Department of Periodontology and Implantology at New York University. He has been collaborating with Dr Enrico Agliardi for 14 years, carrying out clinical and research activities on immediate and partial and complete rehabilitations.

Dr. Robert E. Lamb received his D.D.S. in 1967 from the University of California in San Francisco and his M.S.D. and certificate in Periodontics in 1972 from the University of Washington.

His honors include O.K.U. Honorary Dental Fraternity, Orban Award from the American Academy of Periodontology, Saul Schluger Endowed Visiting Professorship at the University of Washington, membership in the Studiengruppe für Restaurative Zahnheilkunde, honorary membership in the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetische Zahnheilkunde, and honorary memberships in the Indian Academy of Osseointegration and the International Academy of Advanced Interdisciplinary Dentistry.

He has taught in the Department of Periodontics at the University of the Pacific since 1972 and is a Visiting Professor in Graduate Periodontics at the University of Washington.

Dr. Dean E. Kois received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) from Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Kois went on to specialize in Prosthodontics receiving a Certificate in Prosthodontics with a Master’s of Science degree (MSD) from the University of Washington, School of Dentistry, and then completed a 2- year surgical Implant Fellowship (FID) at New York University, College of Dentistry. His memberships to professional organizations includes the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, American College of Prosthodontists, Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics, Washington State Society of Prosthodontists & King County Dental Association. Dr. Kois continues to lecture nationally and internationally as well as publish extensively on various topics in dentistry. He maintains a private practice limited to restorative, aesthetic and implant dentistry in Seattle. In addition, he continues to work with restorative dentists at the Kois Center, a didactic and clinical teaching program.

Dr Debora R. Vilaboa graduated from the Complutense University Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Madrid. The same year, she was accepted at the Seville School of Dentistry, where she obtained her dental degree. Later on she chose to attend the Advanced Pediactric Dentistry Program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After establishing the Vilaboa Clinic in 1987, she found that some cases could not be explained by caries nor periodontal disease and began gathering data. She lectured on tooth wear as early as 1992, both in Spain and the United States. Understanding how to approach the treatment of young children helped Dr Deborah Vilaboa in her work with tooth wear patients, many of whom had a fear of dentistry. As a pioneer in the field of porcelain laminate veneers, she treated such cases with a novel adhesive concept. Dr Debora Vilaboa soon became a member of the Spanish Society of Stomatological Prosthetics (SEPES) and the Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA). Her passion for treating patients and continuing education was rewarded in becoming an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED). She was then able to pursue her restorative and prosthodontic interests, thanks to a truly collaborative and generous exchange of knowledge among the active members that is still a driving force for the team at Vilaboa Clinic. Dr Debora Reuss obtained her Master’s Degree in Orthodontics at the European University of Madrid, 4 years after graduating as a dentist from San Pablo CEU University of Madrid. Having completed several postgraduate specialty courses (including Damon self-ligating and Invisalign systems), she joined the Spanish Orthodontics Society (SEDO) and the Spanish Society of Aligners (SEDA). As a Member of the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), she is a firm believer in facial- and profile-guided orthodontics. Dr Reuss trained in occlusion at the Pankey Institute of Miami and believes that a classical concept of occlusion must be a driving force in treating orthodontic patients. Her passion for treating patients within a multidisciplinary approach has inspired her to attend continuing education courses on occlusion, restorative, and prosthodontic topics and is the reason behind her affiliation with the Spanish Society of Stomatological Prosthetics (SEPES) as well as the reason why she became affiliate member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED) and the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (IAED). Dr Reuss teaches at the Esthetic Dentistry Department at San Pablo CEU University of Madrid. Multidisciplinary thinking led her to join the Vilaboa Team in Madrid to help treat tooth wear patients with a minimally invasive philosophy to prevent further wear and to ensure conservative performance of the required restorations. An education in three-dimensional thinking as an orthodontist is key in leading the tooth wear team to a facially guided restoration as an architect of the oral complex.

Dr. Domenico Ricucci received his degree in General Medicine from “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 1982, and his DDS from the same University in 1985. Since 1998 he has run his own histology laboratory and his primary research interest relates to pulpal and periapical tissue reactions to caries and treatment procedures, biofilms in endodontic infections, etiology of RTC treatment failure, pulp regeneration / revascularization.

Donald S. Clem, DDS, is the recipient of numerous awards, including Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Periodontics by the California Society of Periodontists and the American Academy of Periodontology’s Gold Medal, the highest award the Academy can bestow. He is a past president of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, American Academy of Periodontology, and the American Board of Periodontology. Dr Clem has authored over 30 publications, including three textbook chapters, and lectures internationally on sedation, periodontal regeneration, dental implants, and bone healing. He maintains a full-time private practice limited to periodontics and dental implants in Orange County, California.

Dr. Thompson began his dental career at age 18, working as an in-house laboratory technician. Over the next ten years, he worked and studied full time and graduated from University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1996. He then completed a one-year hospital-based V. A. Douglas A.
