Alexandra Jenkins, PhD, RD, started her research career in Oxford, where she was part of the research team that developed the concept of slow release carbohydrate and the Glycemic Index. This launched her life-long interest in the use of dietary strategies to reduce or prevent the development of chronic diseases. She obtained her BSc from the University of Toronto and completed a dietetic internship at St Michael’s Hospital. Charles J. Burstone †

Charles J. Burstone, DDS, MS (1928 – 2015), was a pioneer in his field, introducing biomechanical concepts to clinical orthodontics by formulating the segmented arch technique. He was responsible of developing robust orthodontics departments at Indiana University and later at the University of Connecticut, which both became internationally known for their research and for the quality of their graduates, many of whom went on to become outstanding clinicians and teachers throughout the world. Always an innovator, Dr Burstone was an early developer of interactive computer programs for diagnosis and treatment planning, a codeveloper of new wires using titanium-molybdenum alloy (TMA) and Chinese nickel titanium (NiTi) alloy, and the lead researcher in the development of long-fiber-reinforced composites in appliance design. He held various patents related to his work. As an active member of numerous dental societies and organizations, Dr Burstone was the recipient of many distinguished awards and honors. He published many books and chapters as well more than 200 articles in refereed journals. Dr Burstone was professor emeritus of the Division of Orthodontics at the University of Connecticut, where he donated much of his time and energy until his passing in February 2015.

Christos Katsaros obtained his dental degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and received his four-year orthodontic training at the University of Saarland, Germany, where he also completed his doctoral degree (Dr. med. dent.) and “Habilitation.” He worked as a researcher at Göteborg University, Sweden, where he completed an Odont. Conor limits his clinical practice to the delivery of all aspects of Endodontics at his specialist, referral practice in Limerick, Ireland. His Masters research thesis focused on the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT in the detection of external root resorption. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and has co-authored six textbook chapters. He is co-author of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) guidelines and position statement on the use of CBCT in Endodontics. He was a clinical fellow at the Section of Prosthetic Dentistry, Department of Neuroscience, University of Pisa, Italy until 2005. From 2006 to 2016, Daniele Manfredini has been Assistant Professor at the School of Dentistry and coordinator of the research projects at the TMD Clinic, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Padova, Italy. Since 2017, Daniele Manfredini has held teachings in Oral Physiology and in Clinical Gnathology at the School of Dentistry, University of Siena, Italy. On January 2017, the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) appointed him as a Full Professor at the age of 41. Daniele Manfredini authored more than 230 papers in the field of bruxism and temporomandibular disorders in journals indexed in the Medline database (Scopus H-index=49). He also edited, among the others, the book “Current concepts on temporomandibular disorders” (Quintessence Publishing, 2010), including contributions from 45 world-renowned experts, and co-authored several textbooks on the same topics. Based on publication ratings, in November 2013, the US agency Expertscape ranked Daniele Manfredini as world #1 expert in the field of temporomandibular joint disorders, and, in November 2018, also as #1 in the field of bruxism. From then on, Daniele Manfredini has always been classified within the top three experts in both conditions. Since 2018, Daniele Manfredini is Member and Coordinator of the Bruxism Consensus Panel within the International Association for Dental Research, which works on the updated definition and classification strategies for bruxism.

Daniele Rondoni

Born in Savona in 1961 where he lives and has worked in his own laboratory since 1982 with his collaborators. Graduated from the dental technicians school IPSIA “P.Gaslini” in Genoa in 1979. He continued his education by attending relevant workshops for the “Italian dental school “and furthered his professional experience in Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Particularly interested in the morphology and dental aesthetics, he has collaborated in the development of aesthetic dental restoration materials. and is author of “Techniques of Ceramic multistratification” (ed.UTET). He has created a manual for laboratory work on the use of composite materials by determining work protocols for the indirect technique and also for the technique of pressing composite structures on metal know as the “inverse stratification system” which he designed. He is the author of numerous articles on aesthetic restoration published in Italy and abroad. Some of his cases are published in the text “The conservative restoration of anterior teeth.”(ed.ACME) Vanini Mangani Klimovscaja. other clinical cases are presented by Dr. W. Deborah A. Termeie, DDS, is a clinical instructor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology (ABP), and it was her experience preparing for the ABP qualifying exams that inspired her to write this book. Derek Richards is a specialist in dental public health, Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Dentistry and Specialist Advisor to the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) Development Team. Alexis Ioannidis is a Senior Teaching and Research Assistant at the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Ali Tahmaseb DDS, PhD

Dr. Ali Tahmaseb left Teheran for Belgium while in his late teens, where he began his dental education at the University of Ghent in 1988. Since then he has followed various training programs in oral surgery and implant dentistry throughout Europe and the USA. In 2011 he completed his PhD at the University of Amsterdam, ACTA and stayed on to become an associate professor in the department of oral implantology and prosthetic dentistry. Dr. Anna Salat

Born in Barcelona, Spain, Anna Salat studied dentistry at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) in Barcelona. She completed a specialization in esthetic and restorative dentistry at the same university, where she became a professor in that department. She has been visiting professor in Siena, Marseille, Valencia, Barcelona, and Lisbon. She is particularly interested in composites, esthetics, and cosmetic dentistry and teaches courses on these topics. She is the author of publications in international journals such as the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and the Tropical Dental Journal. Together with Dr Manauta, she wrote the book Layers: An Atlas of Composite Resin Stratification (Quintessence Publishing 2012) and is a coauthor of the book Mulher Dentista (Quintessence Publishing 2016). She is an honorary member of the Styleitaliano group. She loves to find ways to make things look better, and she applies this life philosophy by combining adhesive dentistry and conservative techniques to improve smiles.

Dr. Antonino Nicolò

Dr. Antonino Nicolò, graduated as a Dental Technician in 2005 from the “New Europe” Institute in Reggio Calabria, Italy. For a while he worked as a Dental Technician and then as Sales Manager for the Southern division of Dental Club S.p.A., leader in dental supply. Dr. Antonio Carrassi

Dr Carrassi is a professor of dentistry and stomatology, head of the Operative Unit of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology at the San Paolo Hospital in Milan and dean pro tempore of the Medical Faculty of the University of Milan.
